The Old Handwriting AI browser extension is primarily designed for transcribing text on web pages. But is also possible to use it on local files, e.g. PDF documents.

If you are using the Google Chrome browser there is a setting that you need to change for the browser extension to allow it to access local files. For the Microsoft Edge browser this change is not necessary.

  1. In Google Chrome open the settings for the browser extension by right-clicking on the Old Handwriting AI icon in the browser toolbar.

  2. Select Manage Extension from the menu.

  3. On the Manage Extension page, scroll down to the "Allow access to file URLs" setting.
  4. Turn the switch to ON.

  5. Now the extension will work on local files.
